'DID YOU COME?
PERFORMANCE PART OF {V} ART AND FEMINISM SHOW AT SPAZZJU KREATTIV, MALTA
A 30min live performance written by Charlene Galea based on 3month research about female orgasm which took place inside the gallery space of Spazzju Kreattiv. The choreography was aided by Zoe Camilleri and Concetta Cariello and as well a lot of women have contributed to the research in question and photo shoots.
During making love or having sex, have you ever been asked ‘Did you come?’ Did you ever made up an answer which did not reflect the truth? Why did you answer in that way? On the other side how does an orgasm feel like? Are you worried you do not orgasm often or never can? And the list of related orgasmic questions are never ending. Who to blame? Our education system? The one night stand or multiple night stands with strangers whilst looking for satisfaction that seem to constantly fail? Your partner who imitate the porn site or want you to act like one yourself? Conventional ways of making love passed on generation after generation? We live in times of typing 'How to' in a browser, searching for an answer in google search to save our fear, engulfing us with myths and unclear answers whilst dressing up in latest underwear to dream of an orgasm come true. Instead of this blame ping pong game, can we find a way to start researching each part of our femininity, to explore what has been neglected, to find what have been lost? Can ‘we become’ before ‘we come’? We live in times of typing 'How to' in a browser , searching for an answer in google search to save our fear, engulfing us with myths and unclear answers.
The performance relates to a three piece act which most ladies can relate to -
1. Ma giex - a failed date during times of sex texting and online dating, a fake fantasy
2. Hmar il-lejl - a fake fantasy in a dream which never comes true
3. Wicc imbwicc - facing the truth to start a journey of exploration on my own without depending on anyone else to get closer to who I am and to eventually become before I will come
