TAQTIR, 2023
INDEPENDENT SPACE, VALLETTA
CO CREATION WITH PERFORMER BOBB ATTARD AND SOUND ARTIST DAPHNE SAMMUT
This event has happened in Studio 87’s secondary space at 38 East Street, Valletta for a one time improvised performative installation interlacing movement and sound by multidisciplinary artists Charlene Galea, Bobb Attard and Daphne Sammut. The event has been curated by Justine Balzan Demajo where the performance has captured the unpredictable nature, fluidity, transparency of water and its movement.
The word TAQTIR (dripping) evokes this sensation of the ephemeral, or the lack of it, that embodies water.
The live performance is a visceral reaction to the constant flux of the movers which mimics the continual change of water. Just like the undirected flow of water, Charlene’s and Bob’s bodies will demonstrate spontaneous movements, raw, rootless verging on primitive and spiritual as they move in a trance like state.
Sound artist Daphne Sammut is also an integral part of this performance. Whereby the sound follows the movement, allowing the flow of the performers to change the mood and atmosphere of the sonic aspects.
